Emotion, mind and behavior are fundamental to human life, influencing everyday tasks such as learning, social communication, and even rational decision-making. To study human brain, mind, emotion and behavior need to be analyzed in combination, a feat that requires advanced computational approaches. The affective, psychological and physiological computing is proposed to develop new technologies and theories that advance basic understanding of affect, cognition, behavior, and their roles in human experience. As a novel multidisciplinary science, research of affective, psychological and physiological requires integration of multiple areas such as computer science, cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, physiology, psychiatry, and biomedical engineering. The goal of this special session is to gather the state-of-the-art achievements in this field and discuss the technological and scientific development in order to promote its further development. The research interests include but are not limited to:

  • Quantification of human emotion, cognition, and affective process
  • Methods for multi-modal (e.g., ERPs, MEG, MRI, speech) recognition emotional/mental states
  • Algorithms and features for the recognition of emotion, mental state and body gestures
  • Computational biomarkers of mental emotional disorders
  • Emotion/cognition-based applications in HCI/HRI
  • Computational methods for influencing the emotional/ mental state of people
  • Biomedical sensor technology & wearable computing
